Fwd: FW: London Region – indirect tax newsletter #4

Just a reminder to anyone coming to Sunday's Hash that there will be no Hash Beer as Jock is away. Although some refreshment will be supplied it would be a good idea to bring your own water at least.

And news of another over-achiever below--flying the t-shirt abroad!

Winning corporate gold in a KH3 t shirt!

"Rob was like a cheetah with a motor" – Sejal, Secretary

London Region – indirect tax newsletter

This month's newsletter comes to you without any of the blind optimism of the pre-World Cup, pre-Wimbledon and pre-Tour De France edition of only 1 month ago.  Back then a heady summer of sporting success awaited us, whereas now we have only the thought of year-end appraisals and MyPD to keep us going into the autumn.

There is quite a bit of news this month: new graduates, leavers, returners, Gareth's continuing charitable efforts as well as the normal updates on finances.  So read on!

Gareth does more charity work, but doesnt like to talk about it

In the last edition we told you about our fearless PML's efforts in abseiling off 15 Canada Square.  Not content with throwing himself off things, Gareth took on another charitable challenge joining a group of colleagues from the Gatwick office to climb up a number of things over the course of a weekend, namely the 4 highest mountains in England.  The four peaks in question (Skiddaw, Scafell, Scafell Pike and Helvellyn) have a combined height of 12,542 feet so to climb all four in one weekend is quite an achievement!

In case you're having difficulties imagining how high 12,500 feet is it is about the same as 11 Eiffel Towers, 830 double decker buses, or a pile of approximately 73,500 Tolley's books.

Sporting prowess

It appears that the indirect tax team is good at sport, or more likely that the rest of the firm is not very good at sport!  Congratulations to the team of Gordon, Rob, Steve, Tom, Rachael and Alex who took away the gold medal at the KPMG sports day. Have you ever seen more athletic group of tax consultants?

Based on eyewitness reports, Steve and Rachael are both expert plankers. Is anyone else curious as to who would win in a plank-off between them...

And finally

The new football season is nearly upon us and that means one thing...more disappointment for most of us as we cheer our teams to mid-table obscurity.  However, it also means Fantasy Football which provides an excuse for those of us who follow our home town clubs and have the misfortune to be born in places like Middlesbrough, Mansfield, Grimsby, Blackburn, Luton, France to follow some quality football.

The preferred fantasy football game of KPMG is http://fantasy.premierleague.com/.  It's free to enter and you just need to join the KPMG league. You'll get an email with the league entry code etc shortly.

This is not just limited to die-hard football fans by the way.  Anyone can play. For those who have a limited knowledge of football there is a function which allows the computer to pick your team, so you really don't need to know anything.

If people are up for it, we could have a small wager – perhaps a £10 entry with a cash prize for the league winner and managers of the month.  Prize values will depend on take-up and should keep interest levels up for the whole season.  In case you needed some more incentive, by an overwhelming majority it has been decided that Chris Knight will not be organising this competition, which means that someone else might win...
