Hash No. 1548: Mmamotshwane Gorge, hike + picnic

Howzit, Hashers!

This week's hash is going to consist of a departure from our normal Run & Braai regime, and will instead be a reprise of last year's very enjoyable Walk + Picnic at Mmamotshwane Gorge, just south of Gaborone.  It will be held on Sunday the 4th of March at 10:30am, meeting at the local Kgotla.  Directions as follows:

(Please note that there are entrance fees payable to enter the gorge but it is well worth it. The fees for adults are P25 (citizens), P30 (residents) and P50 (non-citizens). Children 10-14years pay half-price and those under 10 are not charged).

  • Take the Mokolodi Road towards Lobatse and drive to the Ramotswa Crossroad (+/- 15km from Game City).
  • Turn right (Boatle) on main tarred road for approximately 8km to a signed tarred road to Mogonye Village. There is a also a sign 'Mogone Gorges' at this point.
  • Turn left at this sign.
  • Proceed for about 5km on this good tarred road. Do NOT turn at the next 'Mogonye Gorges' sign but proceed straight for about 1km to the Kgotla parking area.

We can then board the more rugged of our vehicles for the 5 km drive on rough road to the gorge parking area. Thereafter, we will proceed on foot for a further 1 - 1.5 km along reasonable foot paths to a suitable picnic area. Not pram-friendly, but if Jock can do it, anyone can! There are no braai facilities, so take a picnic meal, and ALL DRINKS (there will be no Hash Brew this weekend!) if so desired.

The more adventurous can then proceed further up the gorge, swim in the pools, go mad, etc, later.

Most importantly - You have to pack your rubbish out with you: What goes in comes out (unless you want to lose a wife or a kid or something) !!!

Hash No. 1547: Gabs North, Sunday 26th Feb - 4:45pm

Howdy hashers,

Despite some confusion regarding hares and locations (see what happens when the GM is out of commission??) it is Rock Dassie that will be your hare for this week's hash (Sunday the 26th of February at 16h45) from his scenic abode in Gaborone North.

We will meet in the communal area of the Ameya Estate (Plot 67989, Unit 3), where there will also be a bring & braai afterward. Directions are:

Take the A1 Francistown road north from Gabs,

2 km from Phakalane traffic lights, turn left at the 4th turning  (there will be a K3H sign)

Continue 700 m & turn at 1st right at green roofs (K3H sign)
Then a Right turn (sign)
and right again into the estate

Phone 72704473 if you're stuck.

Bring all your stuff for the Bring and braai, and there are change rooms, swimming pool, plenty of seating and parking. For those of you who observed Fat Tuesday/Pancake week/Shrove what-sit-called, bring your leftover pancakes! True to form, Mismanagement couldn't quite get our ducks in a row for having a pancake cook-off this week, but we'll try again later!

Hash No 1546: Monday in Mokolodi

Ahoy there Hashers,

Next week's hash will be presented to you by your hares, Nameless and Shameless, and will be held on a Monday evening, as per the old tradition of all K3H non-winter hashes - thus extending your weekend by an extra day.

Date/Time: Monday, 20 February, 18h00.

Location: near Mokolodi Village - 10km south of Game City Circle (only ten minutes travel time from there).

Directions:  Take the A1 Lobatse road south from Game City Circle.  After passing the BTC Earth Station (giant satellite dishes/alien signal receptors), travel a further 3km and turn right on to the narrow tar road to Mokolodi Village.  The junction has no signpost or decent markings.  Beware of enthusiastic/suicidal drivers trying to overtake as you signal/turn right!  There should be a K3H sign at this junction and you will also see a sign for Mokolodi Indigenous Nurseries.  Note this is NOT the Mokolodi Nature Reserve road, in fact it is 3km BEFORE that turn off.

Travel a further 3km till the tar ends.  Watch out for unexpected dish drains (if you don't know what a dish drain is, you will quickly realise after the sudden jolt and/or removal! of your sump). Also beware cattle, donkeys, goats.  Leopards are still around but the hares will buy you a six pack if you see one.  Or a case if you get a photo.

When tar ends fork right and travel approx 500m to final hash sign and venue on right.

We wish to start promptly so please do your best to get away from work in good time.  The run will end before dark but suggest you may wish to bring a head/torch or flashlight (handy for finding your beers in the bottom of the cooler boxes after 7pm).

See you on Monday!!

Hash No. 1544: Gabs central - This sunday

Hi all

This week's run will be on Sunday 5th February at 10.00. Your good lookin' & oh so exotic Hares will be Rasputin and Ian Lomas.

It will be a bring and braai. However, your hosts only have one kettle braai so anybody with a portable braai, please bring it along. They have a table and about 10 chairs.

The run will be at plot 2662 halfway down Kgori Close, off Chuma drive across the way from the Gaborone Sun Hotel.

1. If going up Chuma drive from the stadium, it is the second turning on the left after passing the Gaborone Sun entrance.
2. If coming down Chuma drive from BBS, turn right just before the Gabs Sun entrance, across the opposite lane into Phuti. Follow Phuti round a sharp right turn, and about 100 m turn right into Kgori.

Don't forget to have an extra cold one for your grand mattress who is currently laid up and subsequently "on the wagon" but will be rebuking/cursing you all in spirit throughout the day on Sunday!!!  :D
