Walk 1496: Sunday 27th February: Mogonye Gorge

This week is a departure from our normal hash run/walk. It will be a picnic in Mogonye Gorge. Please note that there are entrance fees payable to enter the gorge but it is well worth it. The fees for adults are P25 (citizens), P30 (residents) and P50 (non-citizens). Children 10-14years pay half-price and those under 10 are not charged.

There are two options for meeting for this walk:

The first meeting point will be outside Kgale Spar and will depart at 09h45 sharp. Those who wish to share transport at this point can do so.
The alternative is to drive to the second meeting point where we will meet at 10h30 which will give those who met at Kgale Spar time to get there.

To get to the second meeting point, proceed as follows:

  • Take the Mokolodi Road towards Lobatse and drive to the Ramotswa Crossroad (+/- 25km from Game City).
  • Turn right (Boatle) on main tarred road for approximately 15km to a signed tarred road to Mogonye Village. There is a also a sign 'Mogone Gorges' at this point.
  • Turn left at this sign.
  • Proceed for about 5km on this good tarred road. Do NOT turn at the next 'Mogonye Gorges' sign but proceed straight for about 1km to the Kgotla parking area which is the second meeting point.

We can then board the more rugged of our vehicles for the 5 km drive on rough road to the gorge parking area.
Thereafter, we will proceed on foot for a further 1 - 1.5 km along reasonable foot paths to a suitable picnic area. There are no braai facilities, so take a picnic meal, if so desired. Please ensure that you bring sufficient beverages with you - either bring your own or stock up on hash brew in the parking lot.

The more adventurous can then proceed further up the gorge, swim in the pools, go mad, etc, later.

And most importantly: What goes in must come out! The only thing we are leaving behind are our footprints.

Run 1493: Sunday 6th Feb at 9.30am in Village

This week's run will be on Sunday 6th February at 9.30am.
The Authorities have, in their wisdom, blocked all roads to the Village except two. We can therefore have the Hash on Sunday unless the Authorities discover that the Village is still accessible and block them too.
This will be a bring-and-braai on Plot 5302. There will be braai stands with burning charcoal but bring everything else. The number of available chairs and tables are limited, so please bring that too. The run will be a mixture of bush and roads.
If you come from the North:
1.      Main road going south past the Gaborone Sun, Golf Club, Stadium and University until you find the main road blocked at Jawara Road. You are now at the south-west corner of the University area.
2.      Turn left at 3-way stop (used to be traffic lights) and then right at the next traffic lights (by the University main entrance). Then you are driving on Bushbuck Road which ends in a T-junction.
3.      Turn left there into Maratadiba Road which is the main road through the Village. Follow road to the Village Magistrate Court (huge red brick building on your right hand side).
4.      Turn right just after the Court into Kgwebe Road. Turn left where you can and Plot 5302 is third plot on the right hand side – brown gate, yellow wall, number clearly marked.

If you come from any other direction:
1.      Find Riverwalk, simplest from the ruins of Tlokweng circle.
2.      Turn left at traffic lights outside Riverwalk into Shashe South Road and drive up to fuel station/Gym Active traffic lights.
3.      Turn left into Maratadiba Road and immediately left again into Kgwebe Road. Plot 5302 is fifth plot on your left hand side -  brown gate, yellow wall, number clearly marked.

(If you happen to come from Tlokweng, still find Riverwalk and turn right, or use the old Tlokweng backroad to Gym Active).
